HISTORY OF PARIS - GARE MONTPARNASSE

Built in 1837 and inaugurated by King Louis-Philippe, the Paris Montparnasse station is located at 17 Bd de Vaugirard, 75015 Paris.

However, it wasn’t always at this address: after a number of strategic and economic-political twists and turns, it wasn’t until the law of May 13, 1951, which created the Compagnie des chemins de fer de l’Ouest, that the station moved permanently to rue de Vaugirard (15th arrondissement), noting that the various railway lines were managed by different companies at the time, but the stations were built by the state.

Its rather original name refers to Mount Parnassus, a mountain in central Greece.
